Doctor consultation for medical weight management in Riga

Assessment of indications for prescription injectable treatment, health risks, tests, and possible deficiencies, followed by a structured monitoring plan.

  • Doctor-led assessment
  • Individual treatment plan
  • Clear follow-up plan

Weight-management consultation

Treatment starts with a health assessment, not with choosing an injection

Overweight and obesity are multifactorial health conditions that may be influenced by metabolism, other medical conditions, medication, sleep, nutrition, and everyday habits. A good consultation therefore aims not simply to prescribe a product, but to establish whether medication is appropriate and safe in your individual situation.

Prescription injectable treatment can be one option for adults who meet medical indications for weight management. The doctor reviews your weight history, related health conditions, current medication, previous approaches, and available test results. Targeted tests are arranged when needed, and clinically or laboratory-confirmed nutrient deficiencies are addressed. The outcome may be a treatment and monitoring plan, further investigation, or a sound decision not to start medication.

Individual assessment

When to consider a weight‑management consultation

  • Adults living with obesity, or overweight with a related health condition
  • When structured lifestyle changes have not produced a sufficient or lasting result
  • If you are considering prescription injectable treatment and want to understand benefits, risks, and alternatives
  • If treatment has already started and effectiveness, tolerability, nutrition, or test results need review

A safe process

How the initial consultation and follow‑up work

  1. 1

The 45-minute initial consultation covers goals, weight history, health history, medication, and previous approaches

  2. 2

Weight-related risk factors and available results are reviewed; further tests are requested only when clinically useful

  3. 3

Options, contraindications, side effects, and alternatives are discussed; an individual plan is agreed if treatment is appropriate

  4. 4

The 20-minute follow-up reviews response, tolerability, nutrition, hydration, laboratory results, and the next stage of treatment

RDG Clinic

A clear decision and monitoring plan

After the initial consultation, you should understand whether medication can reasonably be considered, what still needs clarification, and how safety and progress will be monitored. If treatment is suitable, the doctor explains use of the medicine, gradual dose changes, nutrition and movement priorities, and the follow-up schedule. A consultation does not itself guarantee a prescription.

A medical decision

Between follow‑up visits

Use medication only as prescribed and do not change the dose yourself. Contact the clinic if side effects prevent you from eating or drinking, if vomiting recurs, if you notice dehydration, or if another concerning symptom develops. Seek urgent medical care for severe persistent abdominal pain, a serious allergic reaction, or rapid deterioration.

A medical decision

Safety, limitations, and possible side effects

A specific medicine is considered only after a complete health review. Tell the doctor about pregnancy or plans for pregnancy, breastfeeding, gastrointestinal, gallbladder or pancreatic problems, diabetes treatment, and all current medication. Contraindications and warnings differ between medicines.

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, or abdominal pain
  • Dehydration when fluid intake is insufficient or gastrointestinal symptoms are marked
  • Gallbladder problems and, less commonly, signs of pancreatic inflammation
  • Low blood glucose, particularly with certain diabetes medicines
  • Insufficient nutrient and protein intake or loss of muscle mass without an appropriate nutrition and activity plan

Specialists

Consultations are led by Dr. Olga Zaikovska and consider not only suitability for medication, but also health risks, test results, and long-term monitoring.

Frequently asked questions

Are weight-loss injections suitable for everyone?

No. Prescription medicines are intended for people who meet defined medical indications. The doctor assesses body mass index, weight-related conditions, contraindications, medication, and alternatives. They are not intended for cosmetic loss of a few kilograms without a medical need.

Which tests are needed before treatment?

There is no universal test panel. Tests are selected according to your health history, symptoms, related conditions, and available results. Bring recent test reports and a list of all medicines and supplements to the first appointment.

Does the consultation guarantee a prescription?

No. A prescription is issued only when individual assessment confirms a medical indication and no factor is found that makes the specific medicine unsuitable.

What does correction of deficiencies mean?

The doctor reviews nutrition, symptoms, and available results. If iron, vitamin B12, vitamin D, or another deficiency is clinically or laboratory confirmed, appropriate correction is recommended. Supplements or infusions are not prescribed automatically.

How often are follow-up consultations needed?

Frequency is individual and depends on the medicine, dose changes, side effects, related conditions, and progress. Review may be more frequent early in treatment and less frequent once the plan is stable.
